What’s New This release focuses on fixes and improvements to your PopClip experience. Once I adapted to using PopClip, I discovered that I genuinely like using it. PopClip 2022.5 is now available on the Mac App Store, and on the website downloads page. In the end, I just learned to ignore PopClip when I didn't need it. I can also quickly toggle PopClip on and off when I want to create a link, but that's inconvenient, too. To minimize this interference, PopClip has an excluded Apps list, but I do most of work in a web browser and I'm not going to exclude Google Chrome. PopClip would show up and ask me if I wanted to cut, copy or paste. This happened frequently when I was writing and selected a piece of text that needed a link. It took some time, but once I made that adjustment from keystrokes to PopClip, I loved having a variety of text shortcuts at my finger tips. One other mild annoyance is that PopClip sometimes gets in the way when I select text that I'm not going to copy. I saw the PopClip commands, but before I could click them, my hand had already selected command-C. It was so hard to stop myself from using keystrokes to copy and paste text that I would forget to use PopClip. The biggest drawback to PopClip is not the app, but the user's muscle memory. It's a real time saver once you get accustomed to using it. You can also search for the selected text, open text links, correct spelling, and more. It can also paste into text fields (bottom). PopClip 2022.12 is now available on the Mac App Store, on the website downloads page, via in-app update (standalone edition only), and homebrew. It offers suggestions for misspelled words (middle). thanks Nick, from memory, but not 100 sure, I activated Popclip from the file downloaded from. It sits in the menu bar and gives you an iOS-style popup that lets you cut, copy and paste text. PopClip adds a clickable pop-up bar that appears whenever you select text in macOS (top). The latest available version of PopClip on Mac App Store is v2021.11. Update : Moved extensions list lo linked forum post.PopClip is a lightweight Mac utility that improves your ability to work with text. Fixed: PopClip can now detect that the selection is read-only in Google Chrome. Added: Improved support for the following browsers: Arc, Orion, Tor Browser, Mullvad, DEVONagent Pro. For that alone, it is worth its asking price. Update : Post edited and fleshed out following the release of PopClip 2021.9. Version 2023.7 - Changed: PopClip has a new application icon and a reshaped menu bar icon to match it. 'PopClip has achieved near perfect integration with Mac OS X and seems like a default feature of the operating system. I will also put out documentation for creating your own JavaScript extensions in due course. It can also paste into text fields (bottom). ![]() I will keep this post the forum post updated as I go. PopClip adds a clickable pop-up bar that appears whenever you select text in macOS (top). It’s going to take me some time to port all the remaining PHP extensions to JavaScript. Having the scripting system built into the app also opens up new possibilities for what PopClip extensions can do. The new extensions are lightning fast, and hopefully now future proof. PopClip runs the JavaScript code directly, instead of calling out to an external executable. Instead, I have updated PopClip to support a new kind of extension, written in JavaScript. I don’t fancy maintaining a PHP runtime distribution. Keep them in PHP and ship a PHP runtime with PopClip.Too many hoops to jump through for non-technical users, for what is supposed to be a simple time-saving tool. Keep them in PHP and require users to install PHP themselves with homebrew or similar. This seems a very practial short term solution, but none is guaranteed to remain in macOS in future. Port these extensions to a different scripting language such as Python, Ruby, etc. This happens because macOS Monterey does not ship with the PHP scripting language runtime, which some extensions need. Install the updated extensions, listed here. Make sure you are running the latest version of PopClip (2021.10). Select a misspelled word, and offers corrections. If you select text containing a URL, email address or file path, PopClip can open it. Instantly access context-specific actions including copy and paste, plus extensions like Send to Evernote. Those of you testing the betas of macOS Monterey may have discovered some PopClip extensions missing, and the message Cannot Install Extension No such executable file: /usr/bin/php when trying to install them. PopClip appears when you select text with your mouse on your Mac. ![]()
